Obama: Not Your Typical White Persons?
Monday, June 2nd, 2008Dear Hussein Obama,
Reading the printed text of some of your speeches and off-the-cuff responses, it occurred to me that you may not be informed of the Causes of the American Civil War. This is understandable, as not many American teachers can really help their students to understand the simple principles of the oneness of humankind, driving the complexities of the Civil War.
Nevertheless, IF you can recall, there were many years of American life PRIOR to the Civil War, a war which was only locally planned and fought when finally the segregationist states seceded from the Union. In those years prior to and leading up to that horrendous, America-defining period, when many typical white persons were more interested in AVOIDING any conflict over negroes or indentured Chinese and whites, some OTHER typical white persons were actively taking a stand on very uncomfortable, public but moral high-ground.
Those typical white persons were at first few in number, filled with religious fervor, adamant in their belief in the oneness of mankind and the blacks’ essential humanity… Christians mostly, but they found courage in the Holy Spirit and raised their few voices in a condemnation of the institution and practice of SLAVERY.
“Slavery MUST BE ABOLISHED!” they demanded. They soon became known as Abolitionists. Some were typical white persons, and others typical black humans.
Due in large part to their urging, their incitement and their ceaseless agitation, they bridged color barriers and social obstacles, and used their words -backed by authentic experience- to touch, move and inspire Americans.
In the interests of brevity alone, I leave you with this thought, Barack Hussein Obama: typical white Americans KNEW LITTLE of the Muslim/Arab traffic in white slaves during the 1700s and 1800s. They were NOT engaged in some self-serving, attention-getting blather, but were rather stridently calling for the end to American slavery, having seen first-hand what M. Gordon describes in his 1989 book, “Slavery in the Arab World“:
The taking of slaves – in razzias, or raids, on peaceful … villages – also had a high casualty rate. Gordon notes that the typical practice was to conduct a pre-dawn raid on an unsuspecting village and kill off as many of the men and older women as possible. Young women and children were then abducted as the preferred “booty” for the raiders.
Young women were targeted because of their value as concubines or sex slaves in markets. “The most common and enduring purpose for acquiring slaves in the Arab world was to exploit them for sexual purposes,” writes Gordon. “These women were nothing less than sexual objects who, with some limitations, were expected to make themselves available to their owners. . .Islamic law, as already noted, catered to the sexual interests of a man by allowing him to take as many as four wives at one time and to have as many concubines as his purse allowed.” Young women and girls were often “inspected” before purchase in private areas of the slave market by the prospective buyer.
Or see “White Slaves, African Masters” by P. Baepler:
This book illuminates a subject once well-known in the history of the West but which is now somewhat neglected: the enslavement, over several centuries, of tens of thousands of white Christian Europeans and (later) Americans in Muslim North Africa — or the so-called “Barbary” states of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Tripoli. Over the course of 10 centuries, tens of thousands of these unfortunates became the possessions of Muslims in North Africa courtesy of the feared Barbary pirates.
Those Abolitionists were typical white, Christian (or Jew or non-believing) persons, Obama, and they KNEW that ANYBODY, Arab or African or white, was WRONG to sell humans into slavery.
Understanding and accepting this is CRUCIAL to leading America, Obama. The Civil War HAS been fought, and Americans of all ethnic origins have grown to maturity steeped in the practical, day-to-day and legal expression of our American ideals, “We hold these truths to be self-evident… all men are created equal.” Neither institutional slavery, nor any form of de facto slavery (economic, class, gender, educational) is welcome in America.
When you hear people speak as if America wants, allows or even tolerates racism, shout to them “I Call BS!“
