Constitution: Thoughts On, Part 1

Posted on: Nov 5th 2008 | Posted by: Grumpy

How long does an oath last?

How long am I bound by an oath? Earlier in my life I freely took this oath:

“I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.” (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962).

In seeking to understand what ‘all enemies, foreign and domestic’ meant, I looked at America’s enemies in the Revolutionary War, in the War of 1812, the Civil War, WWI, WWII, the Korean (Police Action) War, the Cold War, the Vietnam War, Gulf War I and the Iraqi-Afghan War only recently won and now in its waning stages.

The common threads running through the most recent 7 were that America was defending against a socialist enemy OR a tyrannical dictator-thug whose unchallenged whim, with the armed might of even a small nation behind him, could seriously damage freedom-loving people and/or America’s freedom-loving interests.

Personally? My father fought against socialists in Korea and 12 years after he returned I took my post on the line (actually a De-Militarized Zone or DMZ) between the socialist world and the free world.

Now America has (by whatever means) chosen as its president a socialist.

Does that ‘election’ suddenly make socialism no longer the dehumanizing, cruel, dysfunctional form of tyranny that has always before set it in enmity to America? Does having a president who seems to want the socialist methodology (redistribute the wealth) imposed on America DESPITE 100 years of historical, factual evidence of socialism’s impotence to ennoble citizens or even provide for their basic needs MAKE IT SOMEHOW PERMISSABLE and no longer poisonous and antithetical to the very existence of America?

Am I now, in November 2008, somehow suddenly relieved of the burden of conscience as regards an enemy ‘foreign … domestic’, because he’s somehow NOT a domestic enemy IF WE ELECTED HIM?

“That strychnine has been poisonous, is poisonous and will continue to be- WAIT! No, excuse me, it is no longer POISONOUS strychnine because we’ve re-named it ‘Hope & Change’… go ahead and drink it.”

How long am I bound to ‘defend the Constitution of the United States… against all enemies, foreign and domestic’? Are we in the process of ingesting some deadly poison, chosen for us by monied interests who’ve long hated America?

Live-Blogging the Bangkok Riots

Posted on: Sep 1st 2008 | Posted by: Grumpy

While searching for answers, or even the right questions to ask of ‘The Mob’ (PAD), I interviewed some Thai high-school students, and a few of their answers are here:

Komkrit (a lad) said: “I hate The Mob because they bomb the police. They stop (us from attending) our school.

Ketkaew Kemapet (a lass) said: “I hate the Mob because they make (everything) confusing, they attack the police and Thailand loses money!”

Chanita (another lass) said: “The Mob hurts Thais by stopping school, attacking police and making us all dirty!”

Warunee Weerasak added: “They ruin business, stop trains, stop tourists, stop airlines and shame us all. [ These were from Thai freshmen. ]

Meanwhile, back at the raunch…

Prime Minister Samak, after an emergency session of Thai parliament, will not dissolve this government. Constitutional Law & Order ONE, PAD thugs 0.

Thai unions will be huddling to determine their response to the near-absence of violence against the PAD. Thugs 1, Law 0.

The government approved permission for citizens in the north (ChiangMai, ChiangRai), the north-east (Roi-Et, Issan country) and the center (Sukotai) to hold PRO-Government, ANTI-thugs rallies… Law 3, Thugs Minus 1

But there’ll be more.

And we will report it.

Live-Blogging THE Mob!

Posted on: Aug 29th 2008 | Posted by: Grumpy

The Thai government had an eviction order to move the illegal squatters at Government House, but after seeing 350 police in riot gear and batons line up (1030) outside one access point, and wait in the hot sun until 1110, they then meekly marched away, emboldening the petty thugs in the compound, who clapped and jeered!

Some ‘protesters’ broke past airport security today, and vandalized a VIP room. Other reports of vandalism and attacks on police are plentiful.

The government is stumbling badly here, unable to field enough loyal police (loyal to the government) to oust and jail The Mob, and unable or unwilling to send in riot-armed troops to assist!

Prime Minister Samak is groping, either inept or unwilling, either of which are grave malfeasance in office!

Live-Blogging the Protests in Bangkok

Posted on: Aug 26th 2008 | Posted by: Grumpy

Well, they’re there again today, determined to oust a legally elected government which was actually elected in a special election required BECAUSE the PAD was instrumental in ousting the previous government, and now swears to High Heaven that the current Samak government is ‘corrupt’ and inept.

‘They’re there again today’ means thousands of hoodlums disguised as concerned, law-abiding Thais, until darkness falls OR they transform into mob-mode and run berserk again, as they did last night!

Similar to the ‘Recreate 68′ adolescents, these thug-wannabees display similar spiritual bankruptcy, aiming to disrupt, oust, rid, disobey WHILE claiming citizen rights and representative legitimacy DESPITE the PAD’s role in ousting a previous, legitimate government while on the way to rioting to oust THIS legitimate government!

The right to assemble peacefully to demand the government redress grievances is fine, but howling like moonbanshees and assaulting Thai television-station staff is beyond the definition…

It is NOT a cut-and-dried situation, and if we Call BS! on the PAD, it is solely because the rule by mob that they advocate BY THEIR ACTIONS is manifestly WORSE than governmental ineptitude, occasional nepotism and real (or imagined) corruption!

Pelosi and Reid - Official Porkers

Posted on: Aug 23rd 2008 | Posted by: iAMbs

Porker of the Month is a dubious honor given to lawmakers, government officials, and political candidates who have shown a blatant disregard for the interests of taxpayers.

Washington, D.C. - Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) today named Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) its August Porkers of the Month for leading a do-nothing Congress into a five week vacation.

Congress left for its traditional August recess after accomplishing nothing. Of the 106 bills enacted since January, 94, or 89 percent were to name government buildings or lands, extend or make technical corrections to existing laws, or passed either by unanimous consent or with less than 10 dissenting votes. The accomplishments included “Frank Sinatra Day,” National Plumbing Industry Week,” and “National Day of the Cowboy.”

The deadline for passing the 12 annual appropriations bills has been deliberately ignored. Only one of the bills has passed the House, and only four others have been approved by the House Appropriations Committee. In the Senate, nine have been approved by the Appropriations Committee but none have reached the floor. There are two reasons for this failure to act. First, the Speaker and Majority Leader appear to be waiting for the presidential election to decide what to do with these bills, hoping that the winner in November would favor higher spending and more earmarks.

Second, the moratorium on offshore drilling expires on September 30, and it is usually renewed through the appropriations process. However, both Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid are opposed to lifting the moratorium. Rather than allowing a vote, they shut down Congress. House Republicans took to the darkened House floor, demanding that Congress go back into session and hold an up-or-down vote to lift the drilling ban.

The Speaker’s first response was to continue her taxpayer-financed vacation to promote her new book. She has since indicated some willingness to consider a vote, but only tied to a larger (and costly) energy package. Majority Leader Reid’s response has been to threaten to shut down the government by refusing to allow any appropriations bills to reach the Senate floor, including a continuing resolution that would allow agencies to operate at the fiscal year 2008 spending levels.

For leaving town after Congress has spent nearly all of its time on frivolous legislation, failing to address critical issues, and threatening a government shutdown, CAGW names Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid its August 2008 Porkers of the Month.

Citizens Against Government Waste is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government. Porker of the Month is a dubious honor given to lawmakers, government officials, and political candidates who have shown a blatant disregard for the interests of taxpayers.

Mr Obama, You Were BORN, Weren’t You?

Posted on: Jul 6th 2008 | Posted by: Grumpy

A post at Strata-Sphere purports to END the Controversy over Mr Obama’s eligibility to serve as American president, by carefully examining the online scan of something alleged to be Mr Obama’s Certificate of Live Birth (but NOT his Birth Certificate), when in fact its Obama’s mother’s AGE at birth, 18 or 19, that invalidates his eligibility to serve as president.

If Obama were born outside the United States, one could argue that he would not meet the legal definition of natural-born citizen under because U.S. law at the time of his birth required his natural-born parent (his mother) to have resided in the United States for “ten years, at least five of which had to be after the age of 16.”

Ann Dunham was 18 when Obama was born – so she wouldn’t have met the requirement of five years after the age of 16.

quoted at Baldilocks’ Blog

Strata-Sphere, then, is essentially burning a strawman. Obama’s birth, IN Hawaii, may have been certificated, despite his father’s still-married-to-first-wife status, but with Mom being 18, Obama does NOT meet US legal criteria to serve as president.

What’s YOUR take on this? (Go ahead, that’s what the Comments are for!)

Wanna Call BS? on which aspect of this?

Obama, the Arab world is watching…

Posted on: Jun 5th 2008 | Posted by: Grumpy

I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.    B. Hussein Obama, Arab-American running for president (emphasis added)

Mr Obama, I’ve lived in Saudi Arabia, met some Arabs living expatriate around the world, and I confess that they MAY have a different internal meaning for ‘provide care for the sick’, without invoking taqiyyah at all. Nevertheless, I was licensed as a doctor and was actually ‘providing care for the sick’ for several years in America LONG BEFORE you delivered this rather self-aggrandizing speech.

And in the continuing lack of evidence for any claims that humans are in any way responsible, involved in or guilty of contributing* to Global Warming… IF Global Warming exists!

Exist or not, to say that your appearing to win the preliminaries to winning the nomination for the Democratic candidate for election to the presidency of the United States IS SOMEHOW CAUSALLY CONNECTED to the global rise and fall of oceans seems a bit far-fetched, even for an Arab-American, Sir. (Readers are encouraged to Comment on how such a ‘rise of the oceans’ could, upon Obama’s election to the presidency, ‘begin to slow’ and no longer seem to be of much importance…)

Or maybe there’s an Arab parable here, Mr Obama, that you’ll explain to us folks in the cheap seats, sometime soon? If so, we look forward to hearing it unraveled, explained, explicated not expurgated, Mr Obama, in a way that helps provide ‘good jobs for the jobless’ and healing for an already healthy planet!

Grumpy

PS. when your advisers suggest Kyoto and all, show them THIS! They’ll respect your Arab-American wisdom!

(Thousands of weather and geology scientists, 9,000 holding Ph.D.s) urged the US government to reject the (Kyoto) treaty and said: “The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.

* “There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of … greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments.”
