Blame whitey. It’s always the answer. Well, that, the tried-and-true “just ignore the problem” method which has worked wonderfully for ghetto gangbangers and drug dealers.
While I agree with your point, Jack, I also think the principal would have served the students better by meeting with ALL students with low scores on past tests and leaving race out of it. Even if all of the students with low scores were black there was just no need to mention the racial gap in scores. These are elementary students - they are not old enough to get anything from the racial statement except the idea that whites are smarter than blacks. The whole litany of reasons why their scores are lower are way beyond them.
Agree that this was a relatively minor gaffe… which meeting with ALL low-scorers would have covered. Ah, but this is how we learn.
