MDS: McCain Derangement Syndrome
A fine post from The Jawa Report:
I thought BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) was bad on the left, but it appears that MDS is just as bad on the right. I wholeheartedly support Mitt Romney as the most conservative feasible candidate, but lets do a reality check here.
For all of you who claim that there is no difference between John McCain & Hillary Clinton, or worse, people like Anne Coulter who claim that John McCain is more liberal than Hillary Clinton, here are a few facts to think about.
American Conservative Union score:
McCain: 65% in 2006; 82% lifetime
Clinton: 8% in 2006; 9% lifetime
Obama: 8% in 2006; 8% lifetimeNo difference? Right.
As they say, read the rest.
McCain is not my first choice (that would be Romney), but the fact is McCain is probably the best chance Republicans have for keeping the White House. He is close enough to center to draw votes from moderates AND any liberals who dislike whichever candidate their party chooses.
Also, have you considered the possibility that McCain has not so much abandoned conservative principles as he has learned the art of compromise? What is the possibility that, if elected to the White House, he would lean farther right than his congressional record would suggest?
In my view McCain has many flaws, not the least of which is his record on the immigration issue. But I would take him as POTUS over Clinton or Obama any day.
