With a dubious and questionable past which is surrounded by speculation and allegation, there is one question Barack Obama could be asked that would reveal his colors. But would he answer it?

Victoria Grove wanted to find out if she was destined to develop the form of emphysema that ran in her family, but she did not want to ask her doctor for the DNA test that would tell her.

She worried that she might not be able to get health insurance, or even a job, if a genetic predisposition showed up in her medical records, especially since treatment for the condition, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, could cost over $100,000 a year. Instead, Ms. Grove sought out a service that sent a test kit to her home and returned the results directly to her.

A view held by most conservatives (and many others) is that charity should not be the work of government, but of the people - families, neighbors, communities, and, yes, churches.  An argument often made in opposition to adding new government entitlement programs or expanding existing programs is that the additional tax burden leaves the people with fewer resources with which to support their local charities.

This is an argument with which I wholeheartedly agree.  This year we will have a rare opportunity to demonstrate in a very concrete and tangible way that this argument is sound.  Congress and the President have passed a bill that will give more than 130 million taxpayers a tax rebate in 2008, anywhere from $300 to $600 per taxpayer, plus $300 per qualifying child. 

 This is money we weren’t expecting and that wasn’t part of our budgets.  Many of us don’t NEED it to keep a roof over our heads, or food in our families’ mouths.  Likewise, most of us feel the responsibility to help the needy.

So here is my suggestion, my challenge, if you will, to everyone who doesn’t NEED this money: Put your money where your mouth is.  Give your tax rebate to charity.  That’s what I’m doing.

If there is enough interest in this challenge, I will find a way to track the amount of the rebates given to charity, probably by dedicating a post where you can add that info in the comments, and I’ll put a ticker on this blog to count it.  If we want to make it more interesting, we can count conservatives, liberals and decline-to-states separately, or count it all together.  Whatever.  The point is to show that we, the people, care about, and can care for, the needy among us without government intervention.

Let’s show America what we, the people, can do!

The divorced mother of a 15-year-old girl who drunkenly filmed a “happy-slapping” killing has figured out who’s to blame for her daughter’s imprisonment: the British government:

“I suspected my daughter was in with the wrong crowd but you can’t keep a teenager locked up. You can scream and shout for help but little notice is taken until something terrible happens. Now the whole country is watching and pointing the finger — but what use is that? A man is dead and my daughter is in custody. Surely prevention is better than knee-jerk reactions? I can’t criticize the individual social worker who has been assigned to my daughter but it’s the system that has failed.”

Here we see yet another symptom of encroaching socialism: people so incapable of shouldering individual responsibility, they hold the government to blame for not raising their children for them.

…America’s largest and leading abortion “non-profit” corporation, Planned Parenthood.

U.S. taxpayers are being forced to fund America’s largest and leading abortion non-profit corporation, Planned Parenthood, to the tune of $305.3 million annually. Despite claims that Planned Parenthood provides a wide-range of family-planning services, the organization boasts of being the world’s largest abortion provider—performing a record 264,943 abortions in the fiscal year 2005-2006 — a time period during which they made no adoption referrals (Source: Family Research Council). In the previous year, Planned Parenthood had reported 1,414 adoption referrals, which amounts to one adoption for every 180 abortions.
 
Recently, the PPFA has been indicted over illegal late-term abortions, failure to determine the viability for late term abortions, 23 felony counts of making false information and unlawful failure to maintain records.

Even more repulsive is word that PPFA has been involved in a baby body parts operation whereby intact body parts, arms, legs, eyes, livers etc. where shipped to fulfill what has been called “research” orders. During the investigation, a parts price list including $75 for an aborted spleen, $550 for gonads was uncovered.

These charges moved Senator Sam Brownback to call for a suspension of federal funding of PPFA.

The fact that this organization can somehow remain unaccountable while skirting regulations governing other so-called “non-profits” is highly suspect. Grassfire.org Alliance has launched a national petition to rally 250,000 pro-life citizens from across the country that are calling for an end to the federal funding of PPFA and the abortion agenda, as well as a closer investigative look into the practices and procedures of PPFA. Grassfire’s petition — modeled after the letter drafted by Sens. Brownback and Vitter — will be sent directly to Congress in support of legislation to terminate federal funding for Planned Parenthood and other organizations promoting abortion. [Emphasis added.]

But wait!  There’s more!

The organization is facing 23 felony counts of “Making a False Information” and a total of 84 misdemeanor counts. Those include 26 of “Unlawful Failure to Maintain Record,” 29 of “Unlawful Failure to Determine Viability for a Late-Term Abortion,” and 29 of “Unlawful Late-Term Abortion.”

“Planned Parenthood is accused of falsifying records to cover up numerous violations of state law against aborting late-term babies,” added Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America. “Now we know what Planned Parenthood means by ‘privacy’ when it refuses to release information on the abortions it commits on pre-born babies ? it is claiming privacy on its own alleged illegal actions.”

She said tax dollars from U.S. citizens “may be subsidizing this alleged illegal activity. The Department of Health and Human Services should being an immediate investigation to discover whether other Planned Parenthoods around the country engage in the same type of potentially illegal activities, violating state and federal law.”

“People have a right to expect that the laws enacted by their representatives are followed to the letter,” added Judy Smith, the Kansas state director for CWA. “As a women’s organization, we want to ensure that every woman receives the legally approved medical standard of care on any procedure, including abortion.”

As WND reported earlier, Mark Crutcher, of Life Dynamics, which previously conducted an undercover investigation of Planned Parenthood operations, has suggested the abortion industry is involved with vast numbers of violations of local and state laws involved across the country.

He said it’s a simple comparison of abortion industry “services” provided to underage girls and the “reports” of suspicion of assault on a child. Those “services,” his research has shown, outnumber the reports 11-1 nationwide.

The Title X funding requirements to follow state and local laws, or pay the penalty, he said, should kick in.

“The fact that these family planning facilities are in clear violation of child abuse or statutory rape reporting requirements creates an environment for us to demand that their funding be immediately cut off,” Crutcher said in the earlier report. “Given their heavy reliance on state and federal tax dollars, losing that money would be nothing less than a financial catastrophe for these organizations.” [Emphasis added.]
