Murtha - Hoist by his own petard

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

The MSM aren’t exactly falling all over themselves to tell THIS side of the Iraq story, but at least there is a story to be told and some hope of justice:

Murtha Must Testify in Defamation Case

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge refused Friday to dismiss a defamation case against Rep. John P. Murtha and ordered the Pennsylvania Democrat to give a sworn deposition about his comments alleging “cold-blooded murder and war crimes” by unnamed soldiers in connection with Iraqi civilian deaths.

A Marine Corps sergeant is suing the 18-term congressman for making the charge, which the soldier claims is false. Murtha, who opposes the Iraq war, made the comment during a May, 2006 Capitol Hill news conference in which he predicted that a Pentagon war crimes investigation will show Marines killed dozens of innocent Iraqi civilians in Haditha in 2005.

Colorado Students Walk Out During Pledge, Recite Own Version

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Associated Press

BOULDER, Colo.  —  About 50 Boulder High School students walked out of class Thursday to protest the daily reading of the Pledge of Allegiance and recited their own version, omitting “one nation, under God.”

The students say the phrase violates the constitutional separation of church and state.

They also say the daily reading of the pledge over the school public address system at the start of the second class takes away from education time and is ignored or mocked by some students.

A state law passed in 2004 requires schools to offer the opportunity to recite the pledge each day but does not require students to participate.

Clinton copies Edwards’ health plan

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

In a presidential election week dominated by Hillary Clinton’s new plan for universal health insurance coverage, the best news John Edwards got was … Hillary Clinton’s new plan for health insurance coverage. Mainly, because it underlined Edwards as the progressive driver in the Democratic field. Even the mainstream media, which see Clinton and Barack Obama as the frontrunners and frequently forget about Edwards, noted that Clinton’s plan is a virtual copy of Edwards’ from seven months ago. (And that Edwards was “flattered.”) Also, that it’s a step up from Clinton’s earlier, more cautious stance that universal coverage would take her eight years as president to achieve.
