I missed this news yesterday - in the infamous Flying Imam’s lawsuit the plaintiffs have dismissed the John Doe passengers that were among the defendants. 

Out of the goodness of their hearts, I’m sure.  You know, because they realized it was wrong to sue people for trying to make sure they reach their destination in one piece.

Or maybe it was because

President Bush recently signed into law a provision that protects airline passengers who report suspicious behavior that may foreshadow terrorist attacks.

The new law would allow “John Doe” passengers who are wrongly sued to recover legal fees.

Naw, that can’t be it.
