Operation YouTUBE Delousing
“A group of us have decided to take the jihadis on in the last frontier: Operation YouTube Smackdown.
We are attempting to interdict enemy propaganda videos uploaded on YouTube including videos from Al Sahab (the cloud), the media branch of Al Qaeda, Al Ansar al Sunnah (Army of the Sunnah) which is an AQ affiliate in Iraq and many others.
We are doing this by noting the most egregious offenders and flagging their videos as “hate speech” and “graphic violence” the only two selections under YouTube guidelines we can take while leaving a comment on the video for YouTube that hosting these videos is a violation of US law prohibiting material support for terrorists or designated FTOs (foreign terrorist organizations). We also quote YouTubes policies regarding violent content. It takes appx 24 -48 hours to have them taken down.
This is our current video on the hit list: Iraqi mujihadeen attack against US Invasion
We have a list of the worst offenders on the sidebar and put up a daily video to be flagged. We have already had 37 confirmed “kills” and 70 accounts taken down. That is in two weeks of operations. There are many hundreds, possibly thousands out there. We want to bring the full force of our social network to bare on YouTube and these videos. These videos contribute directly to the recruiting and funding ability of these terrorist organizations and are responsible for the deaths of our men and women serving on the front lines as well as innocent Iraqis and Afghanis. They may also contribute to the radicalization of Muslims within our nation and those of our allies greatly increasing the possibility of attacks on our people by “franchise” terrorist organizations.
If we are able to destroy even some of their capability we will make a difference. This is acknowledging that these videos can be posted many times under different users but we will still make a difference. Even one life saved and one jihadi not recruited is worth the effort.
The Jawa Report is helping to close down Jihad websites. We want to close this front as well. Please join us taking the fight to the enemy in a space they’ve been allowed to dominate without much interference.

Thanks for the notice, Mr. Grumpy. YouTube has shown a pattern of enforcing it’s own policies only when pressured to do so by bad publicity. We’re a small site, and can’t apply that kind of pressure ourselves. We are, however, building a record of how YouTube staff actually behaves. So far, between 10-15% of the videos we flag have been removed. And we’re trying to spread the word and build the pressure.
Thats hundreds of videos so far, and if you suspect maybe the ones that stay up are less objectionable than the ones that are removed, feel free to load the videos in our archives (link by the Daily Dozen list in the right sidebars). So many of these videos recycle the same footage, and we just reviewed all links in our archives for July. I assure you, the stuff they leave up is every bit as bad as the rare videos they remove.
We’re starting to think it just comes down to maybe a single sympathetic YouTube staffer that’s removing the one in seven (or less) that do get taken down. But it’s a start.
